The Dauntsey Vale Chamber Group was formed in 2002 by Robin and Janet Foulkes. We perform occasional concerts, usually in support of charitable causes or for fundraising. We play a variety of music, not solely Baroque, and aim to increase our repertoire for every concert. We are based in North Wiltshire, around the M4 valley, between Marlborough and Chippenham and as far South as Devizes.
We keep a list of string players from whom we take those available to play on a given date. These players are sent music in advance and the group meets for about four rehearsals, which so far we have held in the concert venue, at weekly intervals before a concert and most usually at the weekend. If you play a string instrument but are unable to make a regular weekly commitment we may be the group for you.
On the other hand, if you are a fund-raising organisation and would like to put on something different you might like to give us a try. Most of our concerts have been staged in churches, where we can often make use of the church organ, but as we number only about twelve players at a time we can fit almost anywhere. We charge a nominal fee towards expenses but after that all profits go to your organisation. Our last 2 concerts raised in excess of £200 profit each. We have also made a successful venture into local Primary Schools providing an educationally based concert lasting about one hour with a question and answer session at the end.
Our next concert is a Lunchtime Concert at Marden House – Calne 12:15 on Wednesday 6th October.
This will be part of the Calne Music and Arts Festival.
